Hello, I am Carlie! I am a senior at this very school, and I want YOU, yes YOU to help me with something. Over this past summer I sold BLM T-shirts and raised money and-- with that money--I wanted to make a difference right here in this very school. So how am I doing that? With books! I have worked with some of your lovely teachers and came up with this project to help decide which books we should collect to form a permanent home in the Four Rivers library of antiracist and diverse readings. .

That’s why I need you all. I made a long list of books and there’s no way I can read them all myself, so I need some help. All you have to do is pick a book from this list and read it. Then you can fill out the “Wokeness Rubric” (below) to let me know what you think of the book and if you would read it again. I want to use this project as a way to diversify our school’s library. I know as a Black student I would have loved to have books with characters that looked like me when I was younger, so that’s what I want to bring to Four Rivers. We need more books with characters that are Black, queer, indigenous, disabled, trans, POC, and so many more categories of human that we don’t see in books everyday.

For more information, or if you are interested in taking part in this project just email me and/or talk to one of your teachers and they can help you get started!
