What I've Done (The Half-Lifetime Dream)

I had a half-lifetime dream

Where I was the newly-appointed King of a hidden kingdom

Fought and led my people and my friends into a war against the world-colonizing industries

My lucid friends,

Mitch,

Sylvia,

Sam,

You are all here as warriors and allies

I once acted as Spy

Gathering the history and weaknesses of our foes

And led my people to our Independence

As the last magic-practicing race

And after we won, the fighting done, I found

An enemy voice-communication

And relayed it's message to the gathered fighters, my people, my friends

That said:

"He said there would be 2.

Sam said there would be 5"

Sam.

My people flung themselves at you in their fury, bloodlust a-fire in their eyes

But you were the better combatant, you dispatched them easily

Only I could match you

And we fought, for you were a traitor; deceiver; the cloaked knife

You hated me, hated us, for truly in your eyes we were a scourge

But we were matched, and in real combat, not practice

I won

Sam, I killed you.

I killed you.

I watched as you lay there, in front of me, blood bubbling from your mouth as you watched me

realize what I had done

And I awoke

With the realization

That I can

Kill

Those who I Love

I

I can't even

I can't.
