SPOILERS AHEAD

Summary:

April 15, 1912: Titanic sinks. It was the ship of dreams. This movie is a romantic tragedy based on the history of the sinking of Titanic. The two main characters, Jack and Rose, both meet on the ship. Rose came with her family and her soon-to-be-husband who she does not love. Jack comes with a ticket from winning a game of poker with his friend. They both end up on the ship, only one making it out.

Review:

Oh my goodness. This movie is amazing. I love it not only for the amazing story and attachment to characters but also for the history-- I still can't wrap my head around how insane it is that this happened, that people actually experienced this. Though they aren't real, Rose and Jack have a very special place in my heart. I loved the set. It's crazy how on earth they made such impressive scenes. I will forever love this movie and I know I am going to be watching it for the rest of my life.

Film techniques:

The behind-the-scenes of this film is INCREDIBLE. To film the scene where everyone is in the water after the ship has fully sunk, the actors were filmed in a giant, heated tank. It was only a few feet tall, so the actors had to kneel down and try to make it seem as though they were floating. They had to take a lot of dangerous shots. For example, when they filmed the scene of people sliding down the boat, they had to make all of the equipment in the ship a soft, squishy material so that no one would get hurt. Lastly, the scene where water rushes down the grand staircase could only be filmed once. Luckily, it was successful. Shooting the film took over five months, while most films take about 3 months. I admire all of the little details and work done on this film (one reason I could watch it 100 times.)

Characters:

All of the characters on Titanic are real except for Jack Dawson ( Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose Bukater (Kate Winslet) along with their friends and family. Everyone else in the film played a real person on the Titanic. Another main historical person is the “Unsinkable Molly Brown” (Kathy Bates) who was known for her heroic actions that saved many peoples’ lives.
