THE RESPECT FOR GIRLS Project is headed by three groups of young girls determined to make change for racial and social justice everywhere. The first being “The Long Line for Racial Justice,” founded by Sarah Pirtle, this group of seven is from right here in Greenfield, Massachusetts. The second group is made up of “The Gage (Girl) Ambassadors” stationed in Syracuse, New York as part of the Matilda Joslyn Gage Foundation. The third group, all the way from Sierra Leone, Africa, is a branch of The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), led by Pastor Peter and Kadie Sesay.

Our three groups have been meeting every Saturday designing projects that will help raise awareness on a slew of racial and social issues all around the world. One of the first projects we worked on was learning this song written by a pair of siblings from Sierra Leone, Elizabeth and her brother. They brought this song to our group and we have all been singing together with the hope of sharing it far and wide. In doing my part I would love to share this song as it is just the beginning of our work. Without further ado, here is “Respect for Girls”.

RESPECT FOR GIRLS

Eh eh eh Hmmm-mmm……….[3]

VERSE….. 1

We own the pride and the future of the world

We stand tall, and won’t allow no more pain

We are girls of pride and dignity

We know are right and therefore we will stand firm……..

CHORUS

We are tired of the pain

Tired of the shame

Tired of humiliation

We are tired of the suffering

Tired of harassment

Tired of all the troubles

Respect …………girls ……….[2]

For the future of tomorrow lies in our hands

Please respect us ……..[2]

VERSE ……. 2

Girls are the future leaders of tomorrow

Without them the world will be empty

So please let’s stand against sexual harassment

So please let’s stand against early marriage

So please let’s stand against child trafficking … [2]
